Professional experience

Emily Alfs-Votipka received bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science with honors from Doane University in 2016. In 2018, she received a master’s degree in mathematics from Kansas State University. She is currently pursing her doctorate degree in computer science. In May 2020, she joined the department of computer science as an instructor.

Research

She has done research in Game Theory, Machine Learning, and Genetic Algorithms.

Academic highlights

In her undergraduate career she studied Mathematics and Computer Science with honors. During this time, she received an undergraduate research award and also completed an REU. Upon completion of her degree she pursued her Masters degree in Mathematics at Kansas State University. She completed her Masters thesis on detecting Android malware using network based approaches in 2018. She then continued her higher education in the Computer Science Department at Kansas State University in the Fall of 2018. While working on her doctoral degree she has published research to the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) as well as Foundations of Open Source Intelligence and Security Informatics (FOSINT-SI).
